Tow’rs

The husband and wife duo, Kyle and Gretta Miller, form the core of the band Tow’rs with their heartfelt songwriting, alternating lead vocals, and delicate harmonies. The music translates their memories, questions, heartbreak, and hope into raw, honest indie-folk-rock songs, driven by an alternative singer-songwriter pulse.

Residing in the mountains of Northern Arizona, the couple was first united as friends while writing and performing together in college. As their friendship grew into a relationship, music was a constant thread in the weaving of their life. After getting married in 2012, The Millers invited their friends into the creative process, which led to the release of their first two albums and a partnership with Stumptown Management.

In 2017 The Millers decided to build a studio from the ground up. Lore Audio Provisions was born as a brave space to explore and capture music, which rings true with the creation of their most recent albums, New Nostalgia and The Holly & the Ivy.

A Tow’rs live performance leaves room for storytelling and sharing the heart behind their lyrics. “We hope these songs challenge where challenge is necessary and comfort where comfort is needed.”

“Love Who You Love”

Track No. 4 — 4:05

Tow’rs is Gretta and Kyle. Many years ago, they walked into a drag show for the first time, pulled in by the event’s magnetic energy and the kindness with which people treated each other. To Gretta and Kyle, this drag show illuminated the divinity they experienced from LGBTQ people of faith. Like many, Gretta and Kyle wished that their own religious community were more reflective of what they experienced that night at the drag show. “I wished Church looked like this: the way that everyone was treating each other and everyone was loved for who they were.”

Gretta calls special attention to the lyrics: “Consider how the wind/waves the branches’ arms to greet you/leaves fell so you can see through/revealing what was always good.” Sometimes, God shakes our assumptions to reveal the essentials beneath them. Those assumptions could be about who we need to be, who other people need to be, and who God is.

Tow’rs’ line “God looks fabulous in drag” also evokes a poem by the great Sufi poet Hafiz (translated by Daniel Ladinsky):

You are the sun in drag.
You are God hiding from yourself.
Remove all the “mine” – that is the veil.
Why ever worry about
Anything?
Listen to what your friend Hafiz
Knows for certain:
The appearance of this world
Is a Magi’s brilliant trick, though its affairs are
Nothing into nothing.
You are a divine elephant with amnesia
Trying to live in an ant
Hole.
Sweetheart, O sweetheart
You are God in
Drag!

Lyrics

Love Who You Love
by Tow’rs

VERSE 1
Broke like a stone
Shattered like still water
Confessions hung
Between your lungs

Your mind in pretzel pain
The roots like filigree
While they’re buzzed on piety
God looks fabulous in drag

CHORUS
Go on, Go on, Don’t you apologize
Go on, Go on, Don’t you apologize

VERSE 2
Some Days you feel like running
Like the forest ablaze
Caught in smoky haze
Capsizing

Consider how the wind
Waves the branches arms to greet you
Leaves fell so you can see through
Revealing what was always good

CHORUS
Go on, Go on, Don’t you apologize
Go on, Go on, Don’t you apologize

HIGH CHORUS
Go on, Go on, Don’t you apologize
Go on, Go on, Don’t you apologize

2ND CHORUS/BRIDGE
Love who you love (x8)
